MENTAL HEALTH IN HIGHER ED – RESOURCES

As our entire professional community continues to hold the people of Virginia Tech in our hearts and minds, the increasing need for clear and definitive resources regarding students with mental illnesses in higher education has come to light.  Richard Allegra, AHEAD’s Director of Professional Development, has compiled a concise resource page with references to a tremendous amount of useful information on the topic.  Please spend some time reviewing the information at http://www.ahead.org/resources/mentalillness_resource.htm  If you know of additional resources that you feel would be fitting additions, please email Richard directly at mailto:Richard@ahead.org  to have them added to this collection.

BYLAWS

Thank you to each of you who cast your vote regarding the revision of AHEAD’s Bylaws.  The vote to approve the revisions was nearly unanimous, with only two dissenting votes.  You are welcome to review the revised Bylaws document online at http://ahead.org/about/ahead_business.php

As you are probably aware, the elections for forthcoming open positions are currently underway.  If you’ve not yet taken the opportunity to vote, please visit http://www.ahead.org/members/voting/index.php where you can review the candidate statements of all 11 candidates and cast your ballot.

CAREER EXPO COMING TO BOSTON

The next Career Expo for college students and graduates with disabilities will be held at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston, MA this coming May 7, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  These events, co-sponsored by AHEAD, are excellent ways for college students to meet with prospective employers and be exposed to numerous professional positions.  Candidates need not be in attendance to participate – there is an option for submitting a resume electronically to be distributed.  Please let your students know about this valuable event.  Pre-registration is required (free) and can be done online at:  http://WWW.EOP.COM/EXPOREGISTRATION.HTML

As always, please feel welcome to contact the AHEAD office at 704-947-7779 (v/t) or e-mail to mailto:AHEAD@ahead.org anytime the AHEAD staff or Board can be of service to you.

Best wishes,
Stephan Hamlin-Smith
